Aculase Laser Eye Surgery, Nedlands WA
The heritage site corners Stirling Highway and Meriwa Street in Nedlands. While initially built in the late 1920’s as a shopfront and rear residence, it has had several renovations during its lifetime, including a pharmacy, liquor store, golf store and finally a wind surf shop and GP clinic.
The latter presented itself as disjointed building. With so many commercial variations, the shop frontage is poor in terms of referencing the heritage aspects, and even though the property is not heritage listed, the current addition/alteration proposal will aim to improve on this.
The proposal converts the shop and shared medical office suites into one office address serving two professionally similar tenants; a laser eye medical consultant and a cataracts medical consultant.
The design has been fine-tuned to minimise construction costs, and therefore minimise loss when the widening works of Stirling Highway take effect. The design includes a new ‘mid-floor’ addition to future-proof the property, and allow for future extension within the prescribed envelope.
